In the course of 3 months, I have received several bags for free from various special events. I keep these bags and fold them up and keep them in my coupon bag. I also have reusable bags that are super small when folded but big when I unroll them and I usually keep a few in my purse. Of course, the biggest idea from using these types of bags is less plastic bags hanging around our environment – being environmentally friendly!
These reusable bags can actually pay you to shop! Did you know that Target and the Post Exchange (PX on military installations) give you credits for bringing and using your own bags?! They offer a $.05 credit for each bag used. Find out if your favorite stores offers bag credits!
On average, I use about 5 bags ($.25 credit) at Target and 3 bags ($.15 credit) at the PX. These are offered even when you use store coupons and manufacturer coupons! (At Target, in addition to the bag credit, Cartwheel, manufacturer coupons; you can also get 5% off when you use your Target REDCard and Target Cartwheel discounts! How awesome is that?!)
It may not seem as much but if you use these bags often, they can be very beneficial to your savings. Look at this breakdown: If I shop at Target once a week and I use an average of 5 bags each time, that’s $.25 savings. For 4 weeks, that is a $1 savings. For 12 months, that’s $12 worth of savings just from using bags!!! That’s not even including the coupons, the sales and the phone apps you use for savings! Crazy, huh!!
